Dragon on a stick

Well, one of the kits from the previous post is finished, the Airfix 1/72 Saab Draken. It has several inaccuracies but still looks the part. A scratchbuilt cockpit was added and the model was rescribed, decals are my own. The base is a simple acrylic block and part of a paintbrush handle, sprayed black.

  1. Easily the nicest Draken I have seen Mike, I have this this and a couple of other makers kits waiting to be built,so will be hitting you up for some advice if you don't mind. First question is the paint brand and colours you used for the upper side?

  2. Thanks for the kind words Randy. The model's painted with Tamiya acrylics, thinned with Tamiya Lacquer Thinners. I used XF-62 for the green but lightened a touch with yellow; the dark blue is XF-17. If you haven't already come across it, the IPMS Stockholm website has extensive colour charts for various air forces:-

  3. Beautiful work, Mike. Is it going to appear in a future "Circuits and Bumps"?

  4. Thanks Paddy, CandB has 'officially' finished but I think SAMI are planning to run this article anyway.
